Fezile Dabi HIV/AIDS Benefit Concert
On the 25th of November, all roads will lead to Abrahamsrust Resort in Sasolburg for the annual Fezile Dabi HIV/AIDS Benefit Music Concert. The annual concert will feature South Africa’s top acts like, Jonas Gwangwa, Caiphus Semenya,Jaziel brothers, Zahara, Selaelo Selota, Stimela, Durban Nyts, Presss, Semito, Dudu Makhoba and many others. As an annual event, the Fezile Dabi HIV/AIDS Benefit Music Concert seeks to create an ongoing HIV/AIDS public awareness campaign and further raise funds for various charity organisations within the district. Each year the municipality selects a certain number of non-profit organisations as beneficiaries. To pursue a societal collective responsibility, the whole encompassing theme of this year’s event is “it begins with you”. For the past years this concert has distributed more than R 6 million to more than twenty four non-governmental organizations across Fezile Dabi. The municipality always strategically select the last week of November or first week of December in order to coincide with the commemoration of World Aids Day on 1st December. According to Fezile Dabi District Municipality, this initiative aims to support communities living with HIV/AIDS, by raising funds for their existing projects as well as to support organisations that inform, educate, advise and help communities by providing welfare, legal and counselling services, to people infected and affected by TB and HIV/AIDS. The initiative will also help coordinate, encourage and support the work and effort of all local institutions, societies or associations, that work towards reducing the number of HIV/AIDS infections as per the government action plan, it points out. This will help increase HIV/AIDS awareness among local communities; and assist the community to apply non-discriminatory conduct against those who are infected by HIV/AIDS. It is estimated that over 5 million South Africans are infected with HIV/AIDS and the majority die due to lack of proper health care and nutrition. Fezile Dabi District Municipality also says it is the role of government in partnership with corporate companies as well as non-governmental organisations to work together in implementing solutions that will uproot poverty in our communities. “It is against this backdrop that FDDM came up with this initiative as part of the government strategy to highlight the impact of HIV/AIDS in our society. This initiative aims at finding sustainable solutions in partnership with other stakeholders,” it says. Tickets are available at Shoprite Checkers and Computicket for R 250.00 and on the day of the event at R 280.00
